Special Portfolio Edition (2026)

Cloth-bound clamshell box containing 10 exhibition-quality signed and numbered prints

Limited edition of 20 copies + 2 Artist Proofs

Carrie Mae Weems's series Slow Fade To Black comments on the invisibility of Black women in music, while also paying homage to their influence. The blurred portraits of icons, originally made at the height of their success, become ethereal and ghostly in Weems's rendering, highlighting the way Black women have vanished from communal recollection of pop culture, the result of both the passage of time and racial prejudice.

We are thrilled to announce a portfolio of this seminal body of work. Produced by La Sena Gallery, Los Angeles – a joint venture by Nazraeli Press and Setanta Books – Slow Fade to Black comprises 10 exhibition-quality prints (printed in Hahnemühle Photorag) measuring 15x20 inches. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist on verso.

The handmade clamshell box features a velvet interior. The prints are cradled within a raised back panel bed, precisely engineered for a flawless fit, and finished with a burgundy satin ribbon to allow effortless, elegant retrieval.
