South Korean artist Jungjin Lee’s newest imprint, Unseen – Works in Iceland, features 56 landscape photographs taken in 2024. Lee’s distinctive technique, in which she creates prints on traditional mulberry paper, hand painted with emulsion, results in images at once delicate and stark. The sharp contrast between the dark landscapes and the melting snow renders some images nearly abstract, while other subjects – rocky peaks, cliffs, valleys and islands – show superb detail in their varied, charcoal tones.

Born in 1961, Lee was trained in calligraphy as a child. She received her BA in Ceramics from Hong Ik University and with a MA in Photography from New York University. She has worked between the United States and South Korea for over 30 years.

Her works are held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), National Gallery of Art (Washington D.C.), Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (California), Houston Museum of Art (Texas), Seoul Museum of Art (Korea), and FNAC (Paris, France). She received the 2013 Dong Gang Photography Award (Korea), the 2011 Anonymous Was A Woman Awards (New York, USA), and the 1990 Photography Award from the Camera Club of New York. Jungjin Lee currently lives and works in New York.

Unseen is printed in a first edition of 2,500 copies. It is the third book of her work published by Nazraeli Press.
