Between 2018 and 2023, Camilla de Maffei traveled extensively through Albania, a small country in Southeastern Europe that lived in near-total isolation from 1945 to 1991 under one of the most repressive regimes in contemporary European history. Drawn from a vast and still-evolving archive, Correspondences traces a constellation of gestures and architectural details encountered throughout these journeys. Conceived as an intimate anticipation of a broader body of work, the book playfully reveals visual echoes and hidden relationships, inviting viewers to navigate the subtle tensions between bodies, spaces, and memory.

Camilla de Maffei (b. 1981, Italy) is a photographer and educator whose practice is grounded in a slow, long-term, and relational approach. Her work combines visual research with ethnographic writing, observation, and analysis. Since 2009, her personal research has focused on the Balkan Peninsula, engaging with the interplay of territory, landscape, identity, memory, and trauma, with particular attention to the long-term social and cultural consequences of conflict.

She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Italy, France, Spain, the United States, Norway, and Poland. Her awards include Strategia Fotografia (2024), the Urbanautica Institute Award (2023), the BUP Book Award (2023), Fotografia Europea – Europe Matters (2023), and the Premi Mallorca de Fotografia Contemporània (2021). Her photobook Delta (Ediciones Anómalas, 2021) was shortlisted for the Marco Bastianelli Prize (2023) and the Prix du Livre at Les Rencontres d’Arles (2023).

Limited to 500 numbered copies, each copy of the book includes a 5x7 inch original print that has been signed by the artist. In collaboration with Micamera.
